"Woman in her Bath, Sponging her Leg" Edgar Degas, 1883
Herbal bathing is a cleansing practice utilizing warm water and medicinal herbs. Other natural ingredients and elements including sats, fats and candlelight may also be brought into the practice. Herbal bathing is widely celebrated for its ability to refresh the physical body as well as the spirit.
One of the most simple and effective forms of herbal self care is the practice of drawing an herbal bath. The therapeutic application of water (also known as ‘hydrotherapy’) has been recognized throughout the world for thousands of years. While herbal baths may be enjoyed during any time of year, they can be particularly beneficial for times of physical or emotional depletion, or throughout seasonal or life transitions when rest and recalibration is essential.
During this workshop we will cover the basics of herbal bathing, including a step-by-step process for preparing your own herbal bath at home. We will discuss locally accessible medicinal herbs which may be grown in your own garden for your herbal bathing practice for years to come. There will be ample time for participants to ask questions and discuss various aspects of herbal bathing. Attendees will prepare and leave with a customized 1 oz herbal bath blend to utilize during the summer-to-fall seasonal transition.
During this workshop, you will:
Learn about the healing properties of herbal baths including physical benefits for circulatory, immune and nervous system health, as well as support for deep sleep, vivid dreaming, physical warmth, pleasure, and ritual at the end of your day.
Learn about medicinal herbs you can utilize within herbal baths that are easily accessible from local growers, and can be grown in your personal herb garden for your herbal bathing practice for years to come.
