Slow down and create a concentrated time for healing,

with the support of medicinal herbs and seasonal holistic body care practices.

Embrace Space is an hour-long experience of seasonal herbal body care. This session provides concentrated time for rest and rejuvenation during what may be a very full time in your life.

Embrace Space sessions highlight herbal body care practices that tend to the body’s natural processes associated with each season. These sessions emphasize plants and practices that support our bodies in simple, gentle and practical ways, that can make lasting impressions on our healing journeys. Spring Embrace Space sessions are designed to align your body and mind with the season of awakening and growth.

What to expect during your Spring session:

Your Embrace Space session will begin with lighting a candle, and setting an intention for the hour as we ground and center. Simple words are encouraged, such as patience, compassion, acceptance, or whatever other feelings or needs you hope to cultivate in your heart and body.

You will then spend about 45 minutes supporting the body’s natural cleansing processes associated with spring through the following herbal body care practice:

  • Herbal body oiling with St. John’s wort & calendula oil, to emphasize the healthy function and de-stagnation of the lymph, blood and liver

This allows ample time to experience the beneficial properties of the herbs and practice we are working with for the body systems we seek to support.

Your session will conclude by us revisiting your intention for the hour as we share a cup of tea. This closing time will also be a chance for you to share any insights, observations, reminders or questions that arose during your session, and will serve as a slow re-entry into the rest of your day.

St. John’s wort and calendula oil support deep relaxation and recovery within the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and it is the oil we will work with during your Embrace Space spring session.

About Herbal Body Care for the Spring

Herbal body care practices allow us to step away from daily stressors and drop into a place of being rather than doing, in order to recharge and attend to ourselves. In the spring, we are invited by nature to release stuck energy and invite clearing within ourselves and the spaces around us. As we bring the spark of aliveness and vitality back into the body after the winter season of rest and dormancy, we can help lift our energy and step into a focused period of growth. Spring is a wonderful time to come alive in our bodies again, and prepare for our flourishing by Summer. Having an experienced guide and a devoted space for herbal body care can be crucial to letting this season nourish you deeply.

About Herbal Body Oiling

Herbal body oiling is the practice of applying gently warmed, herbal-infused oil to the whole body. Techniques are applied, such as long brush strokes along the limbs and circular motions around the joints, which gently stimulate the lymph while soothing the nervous system and awakening the senses. The result is often a grounded, centered and present state of awareness. Herbal body oiling requires enough oil to saturate the skin, allowing for the qualities of fluidity and suppleness to envelop and circulate through the body. When the applied oil is infused with herbs, the medicinal properties of those herbs are received through the skin. This has a more direct effect on body systems running just beneath the skin’s surface, such as the lymph, nerves and fascia. While qualified practitioners can apply herbal body oiling techniques, you can also apply them yourself once learned, to provide consistent support for whole body health for years to come.

We will work with St John’s Wort and Calendula oil, which Elizabeth has made by hand utilizing local and organic herbs, during your Embrace Space session.

About Caring for the Liver, Lymph and Circulatory System through the Spring

The liver is a massive organ spanning across the central right side of the torso. Despite its large size and core function within our bodies, we are often unaware of this hard-working organ. Herbal body oiling emphasizes the abdomen, which many massage practices often overlook. Applying circular motions to the abdomen in a clockwise direction promotes the healthy function of the abdominal organs and increases tissue suppleness, which enhances their function.

The circulatory system delivers oxygen and nutrients to cells and redistributes waste particles. The circulatory system's primary parts are the heart and the blood vessels. Our ability to feel expansive from our heart center out to the edges of our bodies can help connect us to this vital system in our bodies. During the herbal body oiling practice, we apply techniques that encourage circulation toward the heart and promote fluid distribution throughout the body from the center.

The lymphatic system is unique because it requires movement to function properly. Many lymphatic vessels exist just beneath the skin's surface layer, above the muscles. The lymphatic system can be thought of similar to the vascular system, in the way it spreads throughout the body. The lymph responds well to gentle pumping actions and rhythmic movements, such as those of herbal body oiling, which help redistribute fluids in the body and aid in our natural detoxification processes.

About Elements, Minerals & Medicinal Herbs for Winter

The element associated with spring is wood. When in balance, the wood element shows up in physical and subtle body attributes including patience, resilience, and steady growth. When out of balance we can feel restless, and unable to move forward with a grounded sense of hope or optimism. Physically, wood element imbalances can show up in the liver and associated organs supporting our body's cleansing and regenerative processes. Relating to the wood element as it exists inside, by promoting fluidity and a sturdy, resilient sense of being, us can foster connection with our innate capacities for growth and healing.

When applied externally using herbal body oiling techniques, calendula and St. John’s wort oil can help stimulate the immune response that lies just beneath the surface of the skin in order to promote healing and encourage lymph flow. This is especially true for areas where the sun rarely reaches, such as the breasts, vulva, armpits and groin. Calendula oil can also be applied near or surrounding injury sites or achey joints and muscles to promote healing, soothing any stiffness or soreness that may be present. Both Calendula and St. John’s Wort are often referred to as the “sun in flower form.” This warming blend which stimulates the lymphatic system is ideal to incorporate into an herbal body oiling practice. This oil is a de-stagnation ally, which can be a core support during spring when nature encourages us to promote the release of tension and foster circulation, healing and growth.

Why ‘Embrace Space’

Sometimes, receiving is the best next-step in our healing process. As we allow time for rest and rejuvenation we can form new pathways for moving forward. This often comes from pausing our busyness, listening inward, and letting go.

Gifting ourselves time for spaciousness is not an indulgence but a necessity during times of instability, whether internal or in the world around us. Cultivating an inner sense of peace and calm is a profound way to give back to a world that needs our gifts offered from a grounded and centered state, rather than from depletion and overwhelm.

Calendula flowers grow happily and abundantly in the Mid Hudson Valley, making them an ideal medicinal herb for locally based, garden-to-skin herbal self care practices.
