Dhanurasana, Bow Pose
Co-led by myself (Elizabeth Gross) and Annie Girvin, Asana Lab is a 4-week series offering in-depth guidance on a variety of yoga asana that often require more focused support. Throughout the series, you will work to refine the physical components of your practice and get to the heart of poses by exploring alignment coupled with breath-work and somatics.
Our intention is that you’ll form a deeper relationship with yourself through your asana practice in a way that can be sustained over a lifetime. We’ll explore a few of the main categories of asana, and approach each posture with careful attention to alignment to set you up for success. We will also provide modifications that address a variety of physical needs, so you can build your practice over time from where you are today.
If some of these categories aren't your favorite, that’s ok! Whether there's something you're drawn to or you’ve struggled with, there's a lot you can learn from each one. Following this program, we're hoping that when these postures come up in group classes or your personal practice, you’ll be able to approach them with a renewed sense of confidence and curiosity.

Things to know:
This series is best suited for individuals who have been practicing yoga asana regularly for at least 6 months.
Each 2.5-hour session will open with meditation grounding us in our class theme, then we will move into a 75- to 90-minute practice with hands-on and personalized guidance.
At the end of each session, we will engage in reflection time through journaling, and the option to share insights with the community we form together.
Students will receive a 30-min check in with one of the main teachers during the series (if your register for the full series)
Student inquiry will influence how we focus each session and allow us to best support your unique journey. Bring your questions and an open mind!
About Elizabeth (CATP, CYT-500)
Hi, I’m Elizabeth Gross. I began my yoga studies at the age of 17 as a way to relieve the physical pain I experienced from scoliosis. After several years of regular practice and devotion to the New Paltz Ashtanga community, I received my CYT-200 with Michael Stein in 2011. Afterward, I completed a 1200 hr certification as a Certified Advanced Thai Yoga Practitioner (CATP) from the SomaVeda College of Natural Medicine: Thai Yoga Center in 2015. I then went on to receive my CYT-500 from Tara Judelle and Dr. Scott Lyons in Embodied Flow, a system of yoga that merges traditional yogic practice with somatic movement therapy. I also completed a 9-month training in Inner Yoga which focused on meditation, pranayama, and yoga philosophy with David Harshada Wagner in 2018. I love sharing ways to have a deep experience of your own embodiment through challenging yet nourishing physical practices, and provide lots of encouragement to move at a slow, patient pace while cultivating laughter and play. I look forward to seeing you on the mat soon!
