Pearl of Grief, Mary Jane Peale, 1855

We are not alone in feeling affected by the pain and suffering we experience and witness all around us. Though there is much that is worthy of our grief, we are not handed tools in our culture to wisely navigate the losses, both big and small, that we experience in our lifetime. It is often hard to remember during times when we are most touched by grief that our sorrows are gifts, helping us tap into our sensitivities and cultivate resiliency through rest and surrender. Grief has the potential to overtake us, but it also has the potential to heal us, and can act as a catalyst for experiencing the world more fully.

When our nervous systems are overstimulated, grief can tip us over the edge into burnout and breakdown. Understanding how to holistically navigate grief can help us to remain grounded and centered through our process, and feel more a part of the world rather than more separate from it. Building relationships with medicinal plants can help us remember that we are part of an ecosystem where healing and repair is innate. As we learn to care for ourselves more deeply through our most challenging times, we can learn how to tend to our inner and outer worlds in more meaningful ways.

During this introductory workshop we will meet bioregional medicinal herbs that can help us navigate our grief, and support our hearts to hold both the sorrow and beauty which exists all around. We will learn about gentle plants and practices that help us to keep emotions flowing, and unwind feelings of emotional and physical stagnation that can often come with grief. We will learn how to befriend our grief as a essential part of who we are, how to engage with healing plants to help take care of ourselves, and ways to step back into relationship with nature and our bodies as profound sources of nourishment and restoration.
