Slow down and create a concentrated time for healing,

with the support of medicinal herbs and seasonal holistic body care practices.

Embrace Space is an hour-long experience of seasonal herbal body care. This session is intended to provide you with concentrated time for rest and rejuvenation during what may be a very full time of your life.

Embrace Space sessions highlight herbal body care practices that tend to the body’s natural processes associated with winter. These sessions emphasize plants and practices which support our bodies in simple, gentle and practical ways that can make lasting impressions on our healing journeys.

What to expect during your session:

Your Embrace Space session will begin with lighting a candle, and setting an intention for the hour. Simple words are encouraged, such as patience, compassion, acceptance, or whatever other feelings or needs you are hoping to cultivate in your heart and body.

You will then spend about 45 minutes experiencing the following warming & nourishing herbal body care practices for the season:

  • Herbal foot soak with chamomile, rose & epsom salts, to promote circulation and ease within the body

  • Herbal torso wrap with chamomile & rose, to provide focused care for the kidneys and adrenal glands

  • Thai Yoga bodywork for the feet & legs with a focus on creating energetic movement through the kidney and adrenal channels, or sen lines

This allows for ample time to experience the beneficial properties of the herbs and practices we are working with for the body systems we are seeking to support.

Your session will conclude by us revisiting your intention for the hour, as we share in a cup of chamomile & rose tea. This closing time will also be a chance for you to share any insights, observations, reminders or questions that arose during your session, and will serve as a slow re-entry into the rest of your day.

Winter is the season of rest and recalibration, when we can embrace stillness, quiet and letting go.

About Herbal Body Care for the Winter

Herbal body care practices allow for the opportunity to take time away from daily stressors and drop into a place of being rather than doing, in order to recharge and attend to ourselves. This human need is heightened in the winter, when we are invited by nature to do less and establish our resiliency.

Points of Focus: Warmth, Ease, Hydration

Body Systems: Kidneys & Adrenal Glands

Herbal Body Care Practices: Foot Soak & Torso Wrap

Medicinal Herbs: Chamomile & Rose

Element: Water

Mineral: Salt

About Herbal Foot Soaks

Herbal foot soaks offer a method for warming the whole body from the ground up. Resting your feet in a warm bath of chamomile & rose herbal infusion and epsom salts helps to cultivate a sense of grounding within, as the feet are able to settle and warmth and circulation is promoted within them. The feet are also connected to the kidneys and adrenal glands, as their associated energetic channels run through the soles of the feet. Herbal foot soaks encourage release from sensory overload, which is furthered by being enveloped by warm natural fiber blankets and an eye mask. Your foot soak will be followed by Thai Yoga bodywork utilizing warm chamomile & rose herbal body oil, to gently stimulate the kidney and adrenal energetic channels running through the feet. Your feet will then be gently tucking into your favorite warm and cozy socks (Please wear your favorite warm and cozy socks to your session, ideally made primarily of natural fibers such as wool).

About Herbal Torso Wraps for Kidney & Adrenal Gland Support

Our herbal compress will focus on wrapping the bandwidth of the kidneys and adrenal glands, spanning across the midline of the torso, with a warm chamomile & rose infusion soaked cloth, surrounded by warming pads and blankets. Warm torso wraps have been used for countless generations to keep the abdominal organs warm and relaxed, so that circulation can spread from the center of the body to the hands and feet. In this way our whole body can feel warm, relaxed and open- rather than cold and balled up in a tense manner, as so often happens to us in the winter habitually… without us even noticing it. Your herbal torso wrap will be followed by Thai Yoga bodywork to gently stimulate the kidney and adrenal energetic channels running through the lower body.

About Caring for the Kidneys & Adrenal Glands in the Winter

In Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM), each organ and their associated energetic channels, called sen lines, are understood to harness certain emotional qualities. These qualities change when the organs and sen lines are blocked, and when they are in balance. Within this system of thought, blocked energy through the sen lines associated with the kidneys can exacerbate fear and worry, making it hard to manage the daily tasks of life. When in balance, the kidneys can bring forth a sense of clarity & focus, so we can feel stable & capable when facing the task at hand.

The adrenal glands are the part of our endocrine system that activates when we're stressed in order to help us deal with the stressor at hand. The adrenals become taxed during lengthy periods of stress, such as when you're working long hours or experiencing major life changes. When the adrenals constantly are working, we can have difficulty settling.

When we work to gently warm and soothe the kidneys and adrenal glands and their associated energy channels with herbal body care practices, we can establish sources for support and stability from within. This helps us to approach life’s stressors in a grounded and centered manner, rather than from a place of overwhelm or depletion.

About Elements, Minerals & Medicinal Herbs for Winter

The mineral that is commonly associated with winter is salt. Salt is an anchoring, fortifying mineral that helps us to build our internal resources, so that we may feel revitalized and rejuvenated. Salt can also prevent excess cold from forming within the body, similarly to how salt melts ice and keeps water from freezing. Salt is a key mineral for individuals who are experiencing deep fatigue and reduced capacity for activities. We will be working with the healing properties of salt with the use of epsom salts, by way of your herbal foot soak.

Within Traditional Thai Medicine, the element that is associated with winter is water. When in balance, the water element shows up in physical and subtle body attributes such as sensuality, creativity, and fluidity. When out of balance, we can energetically feel stuck and an inability to move forward with grace. Physically, challenges with the water element can show up in the kidneys, which act as our body's filtration system. We will work with water throughout our herbal body care practices, and also as we finish our session by hydrating with chamomile & rose tea.

Chamomile and rose are both known for their affinities for soothing the body, and therefore can play a key role in winter health. Just like a cup of chamomile tea or smelling roses can evoke a sense of calm to wash over the body, both applying and intaking infusions of these flowers can infuse wound up bodies with the energy of rest. Both herbs are highly aromatic, which helps us to take in the beneficial properties of the herbs through our sense of smell, as well as through our touch and taste. Chamomile & rose can help us to access the beauty and sweetness of life, during what can often feel like a bleak and dreary time of the year.

Why ‘Embrace Space’

Sometimes, receiving is the best next-step in our healing process. As we allow time for rest and rejuvenation we can form new pathways for moving forward, which often comes from putting a pause on our busyness, listening inward, and letting go.

Gifting ourselves time for spaciousness is not an indulgence, but a necessity in times of instability, either internally or within the world around us. To cultivate an inner sense of peace and calm is a profound way to give back to a world that needs our gifts to be offered from a grounded and centered state, rather than from a place of depletion and overwhelm.
